LONDON 2012 OLYMPICS - BASKETBALL SPORTS PRESENTATION TEAM

In 2012 I was contracted to work at the London 2012 Olympics as the basketball expert for the show presentation team - the group responsible for the live, in-arena experience during competition.

The role supported the delivery of basketball presentation across the full tournament, from early rounds through to the medal stages, ensuring the sport was presented engagingly to the audience inside the venues, and kept on schedule for global broadcasters.

My Role

Working as part of the London 2012 show presentation team, I was responsible for basketball-specific editorial oversight and live content delivery.

  • Acting as the basketball subject-matter expert for the production team
  • Conducting on-camera interviews with leading international players
  • Writing presenter scripts for in-arena hosts
  • Developing crowd-participation concepts to enhance the live experience
  • Advising producers on game-related action, flow and context

I interviewed globally-recognised athletes including LeBron James, Pau Gasol and Manu Ginóbili. These interviews were produced for playback on the big screens at both the Olympic Park Basketball Arena and The O2 during competition sessions.

Outcome

The basketball competition at London 2012 delivered an engaging, audience-focused in-arena experience, complementing elite-level sport with strong editorial presentation.

The project demonstrated the value of subject-matter expertise, editorial judgement and calm execution in delivering live content at one of the world’s most high-profile global sporting events.
